NPC deputies propose for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality

General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized in his important speeches that we must fully, accurately and comprehensively implement the new development philosophy. Newly elected NPC deputy Gong Xulong has presided over 20 major geological surveys and made breakthroughs in such fields as land ecological protection and restoration as well as energy conservation and carbon reduction. During the break, he got together with many grassroots deputies to propose for green and low-carbon transformation.

"We suggest accelerating the promotion of geological carbon sequestration, research and develop key technologies, innovating cooperation mechanisms, and forming a demonstration of the entire industrial chain of carbon dioxide capture, transportation, oil displacement, and sequestration to help China achieve the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality." Gong Xulong, NPC Deputy, Director of the Institute of Environmental Geology, Jiangsu Institute of Geological Survey said.

"We propose that in modern agriculture, we should focus on such factors as low-carbon, green, ecological, and organic development. For example, tourism agriculture and ecological agriculture are a very good carrier for realizing agricultural and rural modernization as well as rural revitalization." Yang Hengjun, NPC Deputy, Secretary of the Party Committee of Desheng Central Village, Xinqiao Town, Jingjiang, Jiangsu said.

"I suggest actively developing green finance and providing financial services to key projects with significant carbon emission reduction effects. In the meantime, we should encourage enterprises to carry out technological innovation and application, and promote market-oriented implementation, so that more and more enterprises could promote development with scientific and technological innovation and accumulate energy for high-quality development on the basis of environmental protection." Jiang Li, NPC Deputy, Chairman of TICA, President of Nanjing Federation of Industry and Commerce, President of Nanjing General Chamber of Commerce said.

Carbon peaking and carbon neutrality are crucial to China’s “high-quality” development. As an economic powerhouse, Jiangsu has promoted high-quality development with high level of protection and coordinated promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth in recent years. While the total economic volume has more than doubled, the province's carbon emission intensity has decreased by 43.4%. To forge ahead on the new journey, many deputies suggested that we should optimize the energy structure, strengthen the construction of urban and rural environmental infrastructure, develop and expand the carbon trading market, take multiple measures to stimulate the vitality of green development, and be the vanguard of high-quality development.
