East China’s Jiangsu province recorded 280 million railway trips in 2023, up 25.38% from 2019, setting a historic high.

During the May Day holiday, Jiangsu Railway broke the record for sending passengers by reaching a historical peak of 1.319 million trips on May 1st. During the Golden Week Holiday of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, an average of 1.086 million passengers were sent per day. 84 railway stations in the province broke the passenger volume record this year.

The southern part of Jiangsu handled 187 million railway passengers, an increase of 5.65% from 2019. North Jiangsu sent 66.77 million railway passengers, a gain of 90.61% from 2019, while Central Jiangsu recorded 27.59 million railway passengers, up 132.69% from 2019.

In recent years, with the opening and operation of multiple high-speed railways, the central and northern regions of Jiangsu have continuously improved their railway networks, becoming a new growth point for passenger flow in the province’s railway transportation.

The Shanghai-Nanjing Yangtze River high-speed railway, which opened to traffic on September 28th, has sent over 2.3 million passengers, with a daily average of over 36 thousand people, effectively alleviating the capacity saturation during peak hours between Shanghai and Nanjing, as well as the Shanghai-Nanjing section of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, and alleviating passenger flow between Shanghai and Nanjing.
