A total of around 450,000 passengers from other cities now take buses in Wuxi every month, up 650 percent over 2016, according to Wuxi Citizen Card Company.
Thanks to the continued integration of the Yangtze River Delta, people from surrounding cities such as Suzhou, Nanjing, Changzhou, and Nantong are now able to ride buses in Wuxi using the same card they use in their own cities.
"My work requires me to take the bus in Wuxi often. It's nice that I can just use my Suzhou citizen card," said a man surnamed Qian. This service was first introduced in 2016.
Locals in Wuxi can use their Taihu public transport cards (A card) to take buses and metros in over 390 cities around the country, including 38 cities in the Yangtze River Delta area. They can also use the same discounts as locals.
Wuxi buses also support NFC payment, but it was only available for people with mobile phones with NFC functionality. In addition to Huawei and OPPO, Wuxi is now looking to cooperate with VIVO and Xiaomi to provide passengers with more convenience.
People can also use their Wuxi citizen card for tourism-related expenses in surrounding cities, which allows them to more easily visit various tourist attractions in Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou.
