348,000 test takers in east Chinas Jiangsu province sat for this years national college entrance exam or gaogao amid heightened epidemic control. The annual college enrollment test has been postponed from early June to early July due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The test-takers were required to queue up and maintain safe distance before going through temperature check. The test-takers were allowed into test sites only when their body temperatures were below 37.3 degrees Celsius.

The parents were ordered to keep waiting outside the yellow line.

Parents and teachers were seen cheering up the exam-takers outside the test sites by wearing red clothes, red masks and cheongsam in a triumphant posture.

Power companies across the province have made preparations to ensure stable electricity supply during the exam days.

In the meantime, regional authorities have ensured that the test takers have familiarized with their travel routes and the test venues during the three days when the exams will take place.

More than 2000 taxi drivers in Nanjing volunteered to transport the test-takers between the homes and the test venues.

Authorities in many cities have demanded that all construction sites suspend their operation during the test-taking days.

Traffic police in Jiangsu launched law enforcement campaigns around the test venues to ensure smooth traffic for the test takers and their parents.

China has put in place the most rigorous COVID-19 prevention and control measures for next week's national college entrance exam, a key event for which more than 10 million candidates have registered.

Exam-sitters must have their body temperatures measured and are allowed into test sites only when their body temperatures are below 37.3 degrees Celsius.

There will be at least three isolated test rooms at each test site, available for candidates who exhibit symptoms of fever and cough during the exam, according to the statement.

Around 10.71 million candidates registered for this year's exam, up by 400,000 from a year earlier, it said.

This year's national unified college entrance exam is scheduled from July 7 to 8, one month later than usual because of the COVID-19 epidemic.

During an inspection tour in Beijing on June 30, Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan demanded utmost efforts to implement epidemic prevention measures during the national college entrance examination on July 7 and 8 to ensure the health of exam participants.
