Nanjing has intensified its efforts to speed up the construction of the subway line 6 as the first shield machine made by a Nanjing enterprise was put into use at Xingzhi Street Station.
With the slow turning of cutter head of the shield machine, the tunneling got started on the right line of Xingzhi Street Station to the Shiyue Square Station on Nanjing Metro Line 6.
Shield tunneling has started in 4 sections of Metro Line 6 with 8 shield machines put into operation. Due to the hard geological conditions, the shield tunneling is difficult for the 1.206-kilometer-long section between Xingzhi Street Station and Shiyue Square Station.

is subterranean argillaceous siltstone
with the highest strength reaching nearly 70 MPa
so the tunneling strength is very high
The ground is soft in the upper layer
and hard in the lower layer
We have therefore chosen
a composite shield machine to break the rock
At the end of May, the second shield machine in this section will also begin excavation on the left side, and the entire section is expected to be connected on both sides before the end of December this year.
Nanjing Metro Line 6 runs north-south, starting from Qixiashan Station in the north and to Nanjing South Station in the south. The 28-kilometer-long subway line is entirely underground.
