The 9th World Congress of Chinese Mathematicians opened in Nanjing on Sunday morning. Outstanding Chinese mathematicians from all over the world and top scholars at home and abroad gathered in Nanjing to discuss the latest research progress in basic mathematics and applied mathematics.
The World Congress of Chinese Mathematicians was initiated and established in 1998 by academician Shing-Tung Yau, an internationally renowned mathematician. It has become the largest and most influential event in the community of Chinese scientists in the world.
Held every three years, the conference aims to discuss the latest international research progress in mathematical sciences and promote the common development of mathematics in China and the world.
The "ICCM Mathematics Award" issued by the conference is known as the "Chinese Fields Medal", which is the highest award in the world's Chinese mathematics community. A number of young scholars were thrust to the spotlight at this year’s conference.
The conference will last until August 5th. The world's top mathematicians will be specially invited to give 9 outstanding reports, and nearly 300 various reports and seminars will be held.
