China to mark 80th anniversary of Nanjing Massacre

  People in Nanjing have staged poetry recitation, painting shows and a variety of other activities to get ready for the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre and the country’s 4th National Memorial Day ceremony for the massacre victims.  

   In the Battle of Nanking 80 years ago, the Chinese garrison and the Japanese army fought a bloody fight.

  The offspring of the Chinese servicemen engaged in the battle of Nanjing and the relatives of the cadets of the Whampoa Military Academy paid a visit to Nanjing on Monday to tour the sites of the former battlefields and mourn the war dead.

  The Donghua Lane of Zhongshan Donglu is the site of a bloody street fight waged by the defending Chinese army in the resistance of the invading Japanese troops which had stormed into the city through Zhongshan Gate.

  The offspring of the anti-Japanese war veterans will continue their tour in Nanjing by visiting the Qingliang Hill, the Zhonghua Gate and other sites of former battlefields.

  Renowned artists Chen Duo, Ya Kun and Ding Jianhua joined in a poetry recitation with the college students in Nanjing to recite the poems written by Ai Qing, Dai Wangshu and other famous poets on the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression.

  Chi Lianchen, a professor with Changzhou University, kicked off his painting show Monday in Nanjing. Remembrance 1937 Nanjing, which Chi took two years to fulfill, is exhibited at the provincial gallery of art.

  The photocopies of Documents of the Nanjing Massacre the Memory of the World Register and The Good Man of Nanking: The Diaries of John Rabe were made public on Monday.

  The photocopy of The Diaries of John Rabe contains eight books in six volumes by collecting the original diaries and the official letters, government reports, news reports and photos collected by Rabe, chairman of the International Committee for the Nanking Safety Zone.

  The 20-volume compilation of the Documents of the Nanjing Massacre consists of three parts: the first part concerns the period of the massacre between 1937 and 1938, the second part is related to the post-war investigation and trials of war criminals documented by the Chinese National Government's Military Tribunal between 1945 and 1947, and the third part deals with files documented by the judiciary authorities of the People's Republic of China between 1952 and 1956.

  The document is released around the world online and offline simultaneously.

  The year 2017 marks the 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre, in which more than 300,000 Chinese were killed by the Japanese invaders who occupied Nanjing on Dec. 13, 1937, marking the start of six weeks of destruction, pillage, rape and slaughter in the city.
