East China’s Jiangsu province will step up its efforts for rural road construction by echoing President Xi Jinping’s instructions on improving policies to construct, maintain, protect and manage rural roads well to speed up rural modernization, according to a meeting held Tuesday in Nanjing.
The standing committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee convened the meeting to study and implement the important instructions given by President Xi Jinping and the country’s other senior leaders on the improvement and construction of rural roads.
The meeting was presided over by Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee.
The improvement and construction of rural roads is a major livelihood project designed and spearheaded by President Xi Jinping and also an important measure to implement the rural revitalization strategy and promote rural modernization of agriculture, according to a statement released after the meeting.
The rural highway construction has made remarkable progress in the province but prominent problems and uneven development existed in the course of the construction, management, maintenance and operation of rural roads in different localities, the statement said.
President Xi Jinping urged transportation authorities across the country to be dedicated to the construction and maintenance of rural roads to speed up rural modernization when giving an instruction on rural roads publicized last December at the national transport work conference held at Ministry of Transport offices in Beijing.
Transportation authorities and local governments should implement the spirit of the CPC’s 19th National Congress and emphasize the building of rural roads in pursuing a rural vitalization strategy and winning the battle against poverty, Xi said.
The president urged them to focus on prominent problems and improve policies to construct, maintain, protect and manage rural roads well to speed up rural modernization.
Xi spoke highly of the achievements of the country’s transportation authorities in recent years.
The campaign of “good construction, maintenance, protection and management of rural roads” has made practical progress in recent years, which has not only created business opportunities for poverty-stricken areas but also helped the Party win the people’s hearts at the grassroots level, Xi said.
