According to the statistics of Suzhou Tourism Bureau, the city's 4A and 5A rated tourist attractions received 1.2 million visitors during the New Year's Day holiday, up 3.18 percent from the same period of last year.
The city has received a total of 1.78 billion yuan (US$274 million) in tourism revenue during the holiday, growing eight percent year-on-year.
Horse riding and skating are popular in Suzhou urban area during the three-day holiday. Short trips to Taihu Lake Dongshan Town and other suburban areas enjoy high popularity among citizens.
Festivals and big theme events including the 39th Hanshan Temple Bell Ringing Event, Tongli Old Town New Year’s Celebration Carnival and the first Jiangsu Province Canal Culture Fitness Walking Event drew a lot of participants from across Suzhou during the holiday.
