Basic research promotes original innovation

  Innovation is the primary impetus to lead development and basic research is the source of innovation. Facing the transition stage of high-quality development, Jiangsu has actively integrated itself into the national innovation system by participating in major national science and technology projects, and building the core competitiveness in the development of basic sciences and cutting-edge technologies.

  Last year, the Ordered Physical Science Research Center of Southeast University achieved fruitful results by successively publishing several peer-referred papers on molecular ferroelectrics in top international scientific journals and attracting worldwide attention.

   From ceramic ferroelectric materials to molecular ferroelectric materials, the fruitful results have stemmed from the screening and combination of tens of thousands of substances.

  After ten years of grinding, the major discoveries in this basic research field made by the Ordered Physical Science Research Center of Southeast University will promote the iterative updating of various core components such as storage, transducer, switch and sensor.

  With this achievement, the team won the second prize of Natural Science in the recently-announced 2017 National Science and Technology Award

   Jiangsu Institute of the Future Network, which is based in Jiangning Development Zone of Nanjing, has been granted the Future Network Test Facility Project, which is the only major science and technology infrastructure project in China's Internet field.

   57 innovative entrepreneurship teams and more than 200 high-tech enterprises, including those launched by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University and Yale University, have settled in the park.

  Nanjing USpeed Network Technology Co., Ltd, one of the innovative firms in the park, has made breakthroughs in the advanced layout of future network operating system research and development, attracting Chinas three major telecom operators to negotiate for cooperation and expecting the explosive growth of the application of a secure, stable and reliable future network.

  Right now, the joint research center, the core innovation platform and the new R & D institute are settling down in Jiangning one after another. In the future, a high-tech industrial park with an area of over 20 square kilometers will lend the cutting-edge technologies of these scientific research institutes to come up with an original innovation center.

  [voice over]Basic research and original innovation are the only ways to boost innovation. In the process of promoting an innovation-powered province, Jiangsu is gathering a strong scientific foundation and research-intensive advantages to lay the foundation for an innovative strong magnetic field.

  Over the past years, Jiangsu has deployed more than 170 provincial-level forward-looking industrial technology innovations and undertaken more than 200 major national science and technology projects and key research and development projects.

  The province has also supported the construction of 359 academician workstations and hired 2800-member research teams headed by 360 academicians.

  A large number of major national science and technology infrastructure projects have settled in Jiangsu, such as future network test facility, the nano vacuum interconnection test station, the high-efficiency low-carbon gas turbine test device and the "Shenwei • Taihu Light" supercomputer.
