With the approval of the State Council, the Inspectorate gave feedback on Sunday to the Jiangsu provincial government on land reclamation in Jiangsu.
According to the "Marine Inspectorate Program" approved by the State Council, from August 24 to September 23 last year, the third group of State Oceanic Inspectors conducted a special investigation on the land reclamation in Jiangsu Province.
National Inspector-General Lin Shanqing informed the top officials in Jiangsu of the feedback.
Wu Zhenglong, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and the provincial governor, made a statement and Yang Yue, vice governor, presided over the meeting.
The inspector pointed out that Jiangsu has made positive progress in promoting the construction of marine ecological civilization.
However, there are prominent problems concerning ecological environment quality in coastal waters and the control measures for sea reclamation along with the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization and the heavy task of industrial restructuring and transformation of economic development.
The contradiction remains outstanding between the rapid economic and social development and the carrying capacity of marine resources and environment.
Among the problems, the relevant government regulation of land reclamation is not in place for the implementation of policies and measures. Land reclamation project is not standardized with regulation out of place. Coastal pollution control efforts have been proved ineffective.
The inspectors stressed that the Jiangsu provincial government should, in accordance with the requirements of the "Marine Inspectorate Program" and in combination with the opinions and suggestions put forward by the Inspectorate, step up the efforts for the drafting of a rectification plan and submit it to the SOA within 30 working days and publicize the results of the rectification within 6 months. The rectification plan and implementation of the rectification should be made public in time.
