The ancient town of Huishan in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, will be added to the list of the ancient water towns in Southeast China's Yangtze River region that are ready to apply for world heritage listing, according to a working conference held Saturday. Huishan was added to the list of the previously 13 water towns with the approval from the State Administration of Cultural Heritages. Of the 14 towns, four are in East China's Zhejiang province, including Xitang and Wuzhen, nine are in Jiangsu province, including Zhouzhuang, and one in Hunan province. A database cataloging ancient buildings in towns south of the Yangtze River will be launched to help them be acknowledged as World Heritage sites. Planners will compile an archive on the estates, featuring details on any changes to ancient buildings in the town center area, over the next three years.
