In the "Government Work Report" of Jiangsu Province these years, it will always list the “ten most concerned and realistic things” that are related to people's livelihood and realize them one by one. In 2018, how will the living environment of people in Jiangsu change?

The living environment will be greatly improved in 2018

100 provincial-level demonstration residential areas will be built this year

Housing has always been the focus of people. Nanjing has renovated 240 old communities last year.

Data show that the average housing area in urban areas of Jiangsu has increased from 35.2 square metres in 2012 to 40.3 square metres in 2017. About 80 million households in shanty areas have improved their living conditions.

However, in the new era, we should not only realize "having a room", but also "having a nice place to live in", said the work report. In 2018, the province will build 100 provincial-level demonstration residential areas.

Song Ruya, member of the provincial CPPCC and deputy director of the Provincial Housing and Construction Department, said: "We will optimize community planning and construction from the perspective of residents' needs. We will do it starting from the following 8 aspects: sanitary environment, house renovation, safe neighborhood, parking, infrastructure, reconstruction of the old houses, new elevators, and better management.”

Implementation of Urban Clean Water Project

Promoting Water Source Improvement at Prefecture and County Level in Jiangsu Province

Ji Qihong, director of the Water and Environment Management Department of the Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, said that Jiangsu has started the clean water project since 2017. By the end of last year, all 13 municipal water sources had been rehabilitated. This year, the clean-up of drinking water sources above the county level has been conducted from January.

"There are 101 water sources at the prefecture and county levels and above, as well as 20 emergency standbys. Any irrelevant equipment or activities in the first- and second-tier protected areas that are not directly in conflict with other laws and regulations, such as docks, aquaculture and livestock farming, must be cleared and completed by the end of 2018."
