The Jiangsu delegation attending the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress held a plenary meetingTuesday afternoon and continued to review the government work report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang. The meeting attracted over 150 reporters from more than 90 domestic and overseas media outletsincluding the People's Daily, CCTV, Phoenix TV, Reuters and Kyodo News.
The Jiangsu delegation's media open day was held in the delegation's resident conference hall. Reporters showed great interest in the new development and new achievements of Jiangsu.
The meeting was chaired by Wu Zhenglong, deputy head of the Jiangsu delegation, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and governor of the province. On behalf of the Jiangsu delegation, he extended a warm welcome to domestic and foreign media reporters who are concerned about and support the economic and social development of Jiangsu.
During the deliberation, eleven deputies including Ma Qiulin, Xiao Wei, Xie Zhicheng, Lan Shaomin, Hu Mingchun, Zhang Chunsheng, Lu Yongquan, Li Sheng, Li Yaping, Wu Guoping and Chen Lifen elaborated on the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry and high-quality development with the support of scientific and technological innovation and eco-improvement, speeding up the construction of an integrated transport system integrating water, land and water, modernizing the infrastructure of agriculture, establishing a scientific quality management and evaluation system, and promoting traditional culture.
After the deliberation, the Jiangsu delegation responded to the questions posed by the reporters both at home and abroad.
When asked by People's Daily reporter on the measures for high quality development in Jiangsu, Lou Qinjian, head of the Jiangsu delegation and secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, replied that since the 18th CPC National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Jiangsu twice and delivered three important speeches on the work of Jiangsu by putting forward requirements such as the three important tasks, five new steps, and high-quality development for Jiangsu to explore the approaches to basically realizing the new journey of modernization on the basis of carrying out various tasks for a well-off society in an all-round way.
Lou went on to make an objective analysis of the major problems and outstanding shortcomings facing Jiangsu's high-quality development.
Taking the structural adjustment, transformation and upgrading in Xuzhou and Suzhou as examples, he admitted frankly that Jiangsu has a solid economic foundation and rich resources of science and education talents while the good market environment and the entrepreneurial spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship have gathered a great potential for high-quality development.
Lou stressed that high-quality development is a systematic project core of which is innovation-driven. The most important thing is to build a modern economic system. The most urgent task is to build an integrated transport system. In the implementation of the work it is important to strengthen assessment guidance, policy support, standard lead, personnel support and create a good environment.
Lou Qinjian said the people in Jiangsu are confident in the emergence of a large number of modern industrial clusters in the near future to boost the high-quality development all over the province.
When asked by a reporter from China Daily on the tackling of pollution prevention and control, Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, relied that the 19th CPC National Congress made it clear that building socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new eras is one of the basic strategies of adhering to the principle of harmonious coexistence between man and nature and the fight against pollution is one of the three major storming battles for building a well-off society in an all-round way.
The Governor said General Secretary Xi Jinping made a series of important directives on the work of Jiangsu, pointing out the way forward and providing a fundamental follow-up for us to strengthen the building of ecological civilization, adding that the provincial party committee and government have attached great importance to resolutely implementing the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the CPC Central Committee's decision-making and deployment of ecological civilization which serve as an important content and an important benchmark for building a new Jiangsu, promoting new practices and high-quality development in Jiangsu.
According to Wu, Jiangsu has launched the 263 Action Plan by shutting down more than 1400 outdated chemical plants and reduced coal consumption by 10 million tons while a number of outstanding environmental issues have been rectified.
The Governor pledged that Jiangsu will continue to implement the ecological requirements for the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt under the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and with the guidance of a more resolute attitude and resolute determination to promote the 263 Action Plan and go all out to win the battle of pollution prevention and control.
Some other deputies made speeches on accelerating the pace of building world-class universities, increasing scientific and technological innovation, strengthening party building in the enterprises, implementing the strategy of rejuvenating the countryside, optimizing the entrepreneurial environment for rural officials, and building Xuzhou into the central city of the Huaihai Economic Zone, deepening the supply-side structural reforms, promoting the development of real economy with high quality and speeding up the development of old-age care.
