East China’s Jiangsu province has carried out heated discussions concerning the emancipation of the mind to address such issues as how to seize and make good use of the new opportunities from the Belt and Road initiative and seek greater overseas presence in the province’s opening up to the outside world in the new era.

A freight train loaded with 1,215 tons of wheat from Kazakhstan entered the port of Alataw Pass to head for the Sino-Kazakhstan logistics base in Lianyungang, a port city in the northeast of Jiangsu. They will be transshipped there for delivery to the worldwide destinations.

Not long ago, a direct sea shipping route from Lianyungang to Vietnam was opened, allowing people in Central Asia to consume Vietnam's dragon fruit within half a month since the fruits are loaded onto the vessels and freight trains.

Benefiting from the active participation in the Belt and Road initiative, Jiangsu has materialized seamless integration and give full play to the China-Kazakhstan logistics base and even the entire Lianyungang port in the pursuit of new development opportunities.

According to the new requirements of the emancipation of the mind, regional governments in Jiangsu are making active explorations to improve and revolutionize the logistics model so as to give a strong footing to the promotion of the Belt and Road initiative.

Analysts say Jiangsu has failed to grasp some important opportunities of development in recent years due to its insufficient understanding of its status and role of being the meeting point of the Belt and Road initiative.
