The formulation of the three-year action plan for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta last week has signified that the integrated development of the region－Shanghai and most cities in neighboring Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces accounting for nearly 20 percent of China's GDP and 10 percent of its population－will make greater progress on top of the achievements in the past years.
The plan was announced at the 14th symposium of the main leadership of the Yangtze River Delta, which was attended by Li Qiang, Lou Qinjian, Che Jun and Li Jinbin, secretaries of the Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui CPC Committees.
Ying Yong, Mayor of Shanghai, presided over the regional summit. Wu Zhenglong, Yuan Jiajun and Li Guoying, governors of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui, were also present.
Lian Weiliang, vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, was invited to attend the summit.
Li Qiang briefed the media outlets on behalf of the participants at the summit.
He said that the summit thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of the important instructions given by General Secretary Xi Jinping on the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta by focusing on high quality and integrated development so as to make further plans for the higher quality and integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta.
According to Li Qiang, the top leaders attending the regional summit have expressed their determination to act in accordance with the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, strengthening the ideological self-consciousness and action consciousness in advancing the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, work harder and more productively to promote the integration of the Yangtze River Delta and continue to achieve new results and breakthroughs.
The three-year strategic plan for the period between 2018 and 2020 for the region's development has been formulated to clarify the tasks, timetable and road map for the coming years, said Li Qiang, who is also a member of the politburo of the CPC central committee.
By focusing on ensuring the implementation of work, greater efforts will be made to further build more pragmatic and effective cooperation and coordination mechanisms, Li Qiang said, adding that the regional authorities will give full play to the decision-making functions of the main leadership symposiums and the coordination function of the joint meeting, the executive function of the joint office and the task groups. In the next step, the Yangtze River Delta Regional Cooperation Office must focus on the implementation of the action plan and play an active role in comprehensive coordination, supervision and implementation, he said.
A joint administrative office for the Yangtze River Delta region will be established after the three-year action plan is formulated.
Secretaries of the CPC Committees of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui spoke in favor of the three-year plan regarding the integrated development of the region involving 26 cities.
Lou Qinjian said that in-depth implementation of the spirit of the important instructions of the General Secretary Xi Jinping requires us to further enhance political stance, strengthen the responsibility, bolster cooperation, give full play to the respective advantages, and get integrated into the development plan with a more proactive stance and pragmatic style.
Che Jun said that the primary results of the meeting have echoed the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions, given full play to the responsibility of the three provinces and one municipality for the overall development of the country and demonstrated their commitment to the people, adding that authorities in Zhejiang are determined to make greater contribution to promoting higher quality and integrated development in the delta region.
Li Jinbin said that as an important frontier army in the Yangtze River Delta, Anhui must adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, resolutely implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s spirit of the important directives, and join hands with Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang to create an upgraded regional cooperation coordination mechanism for the Yangtze River Delta.
