The ultra-kiloton large section steel beam for the bridge pier of the main channel over the Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge was installed last Friday, signaling the completion of the work 16 days ahead of schedule.
The steel beam hoisted this time is 22 meters long, 35 meters wide, 16 meters high and weighs 1210 tons, making it the heaviest segment steel beam of the current bridge.
The steel beam is produced at the Rugao Base in Jiangsu Province. After being shipped from the factory, it is loaded and transported to the pier by the entire 10,000-tonne section, and the lifting operation is performed by 1800 tons of floating cranes.
164 segments of steel beams are to be erected over the Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge before the scheduled completion in October next year.
The bridge steel girder adopts integrally welded box-concrete composite structure, which is connected with high-bolt only at the butt joint of the segment.
The Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge connects Nantong in the north and Zhangjiagang in the south. The 11-km-long bridge is to be paved with 4-rail tracks and 6-lane expressways to serve the Shanghai-Nantong high-speed railway, the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing intercity railway and the Wuxi-Nantong expressway.
Upon its completion, the Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge will be of great significance to the connection of the coastal railway system, improve the transportation capacity of the river crossings, and promote the social and economic integration of the Yangtze River Delta.
