Jiangsu to step up corporate innovative activities

  Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, met on Monday with the participants of the Nanjing Innovation and Development Summit of New Research and Development Institutions. 

  

  Lou expressed his gratitude to all experts for their involvement in Jiangsu's technological innovation and support for the province's development. He hoped that through the establishment of a new type of research and development institution, a more efficient channel for transforming scientific and technological achievements will be built, more talents will be gathered, and the future will be jointly explored.

  Lou Qinjian noted that in a panel discussion with deputies from Guangdong Province at this year's National People's Congress, President Xi Jinping said that human capital is China's primary resource and the development of innovation is its driving force. 

  In order to advance high-quality development, Jiangsu must deploy its industrial chain around its innovation chain, try its best to gather top technology talents and R&D teams at home and abroad, deepen the reform of the science and technology system, and foster more independent intellectual property rights so as to strengthen the core competitiveness of innovative companies, he said.

  Lou said Jiangsu welcomes experts in the field of venture capital to collaborate with the province’s corporate sector on the development of the scientific and technological innovation industry. 

  

  He pledged that the province will give greater support to original innovation and basic research, encourage cross-integration and innovation, mobilize market forces and corporate strength, create a sound innovation and ecological environment, and promote the in-depth connection of the innovation chain, industrial chain, and capital chain, and make greater contributions to China's efforts to accelerate the establishment of an independent and controllable modern industrial system.

  Konstantin Novoselov, Nobel laureate and Professor of the University of Manchester and Ni Guangnan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Research Fellow of the Computer Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, spoke at the summit.

  Among other speakers were Tang Yong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Cheng Heping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor of Molecular Medicine with Peking University, Zhang Quanxing, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of Environment with Nanjing University, Zhou Lian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dean of Advanced Metals Research Institute of Nanjing University, Chen Jun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Provincial Association for Science and Technology.

  They stated that Jiangsu boasts a rich pool of universities and research institutes, enjoys strong industrial foundations, and have a good environment for innovation. They will jointly develop new research and development institutions to promote the in-depth development of science and technology and industry, and make greater contribution to the high quality development in Jiangsu.
