The provincial government held a meeting Monday in Nanjing to scrutinize the overall urban planning scheme of Kunshan, an economic powerhouse in the east of the province.
Wu Zhenglong, Governor of Jiangsu, stressed that Jiangsu will act in accordance with the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era to conscientiously implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important directives and requirements for urban planning, adhere to the people-friendly principles in urban planning, implement the new development concept, and hold high the banner of development by reducing construction land use to ensure that the new era of high quality development in Kunshan is planned through high quality of urban planning at a high starting point and a high level.
Wu Zhenglong pointed out that planning is a blueprint for urban construction. For a long time, Kunshan has been at the forefront of the development of the county-level economy in the province and even the whole country. With a large economy and comprehensive strength, Kunshan is currently in the window period and key period of transformation, upgrade and high-quality development, making it important to compile a new round of overall urban development.
He noted that the province will firmly grasp the distinctive orientation of high quality development in the new era, resolutely implement the major decision-making arrangements of the central government, the provincial party committee and the provincial government, earnestly implement the latest requirements for the establishment of urban master planning pilots, and thoroughly study and draw on the advanced concepts of Xiong'an New District planning through brainstorming so as to make further revision and improvement and strive to produce high-quality planning results.
The Governor emphasized that in the face of new tasks and new requirements for the new era, it is necessary to accurately grasp the orientation of urban development, implement new development concepts, base on local advantages, highlight the characteristics of the times, give full play to its role as a strategic fulcrum for connecting Shanghai and Jiangsu, actively integrate into the Yangtze River Delta, make it a livable city, provide strong support for the new round of high-quality development of Suzhou and become a leader in the province’s new era of construction.
We must adhere to the combination of problem orientation and goal orientation, reasonably control the size of the city, firmly hold onto the ecological red line, strengthen the construction of the ecological environment, constantly optimize the production and living ecological space layout, strengthen urban design, shape the urban landscape of the new era, and complete the infrastructure and public services as well as urban functions such as disaster prevention and reduction, said the governor, adding that the goal is to effectively solve the protruding problems that the people are concerned about, enhance the people's sense of happiness, and strive to carve out a new road in the new era of high quality development in Kunshan.
