In the first half of this year, the retail sales of rural e-commerce in Jiangsu reached 88 billion yuan, latest statistics show.
Statistics show that in the first half of this year, the province's online retail sales amounted to 362.4 billion yuan, an increase of 27.2%. Among them, the county-level rural e-commerce accounted for 24.3% with the retail sales reaching 88 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30.6%. The return of college students to startup their businesses has injected new vitality into the development of rural e-commerce in the province.
64 registered enterprises have settled in the E-commerce Industrial Park in Dongshan Town, Wuzhong District of Suzho. In the first half of this year, the sales of the industrial park reached 80 million, an increase of 15% over the same period of last year.
Most of the business operators here are college students who have returned to their hometowns for startups. 22-year-old Han Fengjiao is one of them. Two years ago, she and her group of peers opened an online shop selling Dongshan's seasonal fruits and agricultural products. They matched each product with videos showing the process of picking and making. They also often do online live broadcasts. As a result, this year's bayberry sales are exceptionally good.
In the meantime, the government has set up platforms, provided supporting measures, and allocated funds to help form a top-down boost for rural e-commerce. In Daxing Town, Suyu District of Suqian City, the government has created a festive e-commerce demonstration street and issued a series of policies to encourage villagers to get employed at their doorsteps.
Jiangsu now registers 262 Taobao villages, ranking among the top three in the country. The province also has set up 870,000 online stores, including 150,000 stores for the sales of farm produce. The online sale of farm produce has created more than 2.6 million jobs for the farmers. The booming development of rural e-commerce has become a new growth engine for Jiangsu’s farmers to increase their income and boost rural revitalization.
