The first UHV compensator in East China completed a 168-hour trial run at the UHV Taizhou converter station and was officially put into operation on Thursday, marking the operation of the world's first AC-DC combined UHV converter station.

UHV Jiangsu Taizhou Converter Station is the world's first AC and DC power station. Construction started in April 2014, and the exchange part was put into operation on October 25, 2015. In October 2017, the DC part was put into operation. On Nov. 28, the first UHV compensator in the East China region was put into operation, marking the completion and operation of all the projects of the UHV Jiangsu Taizhou Converter Station.

The Inner Mongolia Xilin Gol-Jiangsu Taizhou UHV DC transmission project is one of the 12 key channels of the National Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan, which can effectively alleviate the power supply pressure in the Yangtze River Delta region and joins the coal base with the eastern coastal areas.

The Taizhou compensator project belongs to the supporting project of ±800 kV Xilin Gol-Taizhou UHV DC transmission project. It is also one of the first batch of 8 new generation compensators to be applied by State Grid Co., Ltd. The fast dynamic reactive power regulation and short-term overload capability has ranked the station the world's first.
