"Jiangsu Province River Ports Planning (2017-2035)", recently released by the General Office of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, has made clear the development orientation and direction, multi-layered structure, freight types and operation areas of Jiangsu’s inland river ports, the first such provincial-level planning in history.
A total of 63 ports will be developed along the trunk lines of 13 inland rivers in the province. Priorities will be given to build 27 key operation areas, including 16 supportive of combined railway-road-watercourse transportation.
Ports including Lianyungang will develop the transportation capacity toward inland areas amid Jiangsu’s efforts to take the national lead in building high-quality river ports.
The province's inland river ports are divided at three levels: major ports, i.e. Xuzhou Port and Wuxi Port, regional key ports in Suzhou, Changzhou, Huai'an, Suqian, Yangzhou and Zhenjiang, and general ports in Yancheng, Lianyungang, Taizhou, Nantong and Nanjing.
