The Nanjing Chinese Medicine Hospital in the city’s Confucius Temple area will be relocated amid efforts to restore the historical axis of the Jiangnan Examination Hall and protect the famous cultural relics including the Feihong Bridge, Jiangsu media reported on October 9.

Feihong Bridge, a stone bridge close to the Jiangnan Examination Hall, has a history of some 500 years and is still well preserved among the buildings of Nanjing Chinese Medicine Hospital.

Historians believe that Feihong Bridge played an important role in the imperial examination era. In order to prevent frauds between exam monitors and markers, the Jiangnan Examination Hall banned anyone from crossing the Feihong Bridge during the examination.

The Nanjing Chinese Medicine Hospital is now close to the Jiangnan Examination Hall and the Nanjing Imperial Examination Museum. The hospital is inconsistent with the style of the cultural axis of the imperial examination.

The public pedestrian and transportation system of the Confucius Temple historic district will be further improved.
