East China’s Jiangsu province has built or revamped 1006 urban toilets since the start of this year by echoing the country’s toilet revolution, according to figures released at a national toilet revolution conference held in KunshanMonday to mark the 6th World Toilet Day.

A public toilet on the Changjiang North Road in Kunshan City was put into use in June this year. The 120-square-meterbuilding is equipped with a family bathroom, children's toilets, maternal and child platforms, accessible facilities, and amenities such as umbrella stands and vending machines. An intelligent monitoring system is introduced to collect various air content parameters, real-time monitoring of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, temperature and humidity, PM2.5 in the toilet by using air sensors.

In addition to Kunshan, Nanjing, Suzhou, Taizhou and other cities have also realized the collection of public toilet positioning data information, with the help of the WeChat public account and set up public toilets inquiry service to help the public to locate, use and evaluatetoilets.

According to the three-year action plan of urban toilet revolution in Jiangsu, at the end of this year, the province will have built or revamped 1,491 urban toilets. By 2020, the province will have 14,700 urban public toilets and a density of 3.5 public toilets per square meter. Among them, 10,000 public toilets will be designated at second class or above, accounting for 68% of the total.

Toilets in China used to be a big complaint of many visitors. So the Chinese government started a "Toilet Revolution," not only to upgrade the facilities themselves, but also to change the habits of many Chinese people.
