On November 27, Clarivate Analytics announced the list of Highly Cited Researchers of 2018 – for the fifth year running. Globally, over 4000 researchers from 21 fields of natural sciences and social sciences made the list.
Cross-field category had been added to the list this year, thus around 2000 researchers who had published excellent and high impact academic papers in different fields were selected. In some countries or areas, the number of researchers selected to the cross-field category exceeds 40% of its total researchers who made the list, such as Sweden (53%), Austria (53%), Singapore (47%), Denmark (47%), the mainland China (43%) and Korea (42%).
The number of Highly Cited Researchers in the US is up to 2639, which is far ahead. In Britain is 546. The number in mainland China has increased markedly compared with last year, which is up to 482. Thereinto, 50 researchers in Hong Kong, 5 in Macao and 20 in Taiwan made the list. Among scientific organizations, Harvard University remains at the top of the list.
Among the universities in mainland China, the number of Highly Cited Researchers in Tsinghua University ranks the first, which is up to 26. Peking University has 20 selected researchers and takes the second place. Zhejiang University has 19 and takes the third place. University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Suzhou University has 18 respectively.
In Jiangsu Province, 50 researchers of 11 universities made the list. Suzhou University has 18 selected researchers, Southeast University has 9, Nanjing University has 7, Nanjing University of Science and Technology has 6, Nanjing University of Technology has 3, and Yangzhou University has 2. Jiangsu University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications has 1 selected researcher respectively.
