10 works were awarded the first, second and third prizes in the province’s inaugural original cyber-literature competition, according to a symposium held Tuesday in Nanjing. A total of 64 works signed up for the competition that is hosted by the provincial administration of journalism and publication and Jiangsu Phoenix Arts Publishing House. Jiangsu has reported flourishing cyber-literature in recent years. Some 1 million writers have registered at the five major online literature websites in the province with 80000 signed up contracts with the publishers. They produce nearly 1 million cyber novels and short stories to entertain more than 100 million readers in total. The province’s cyber-literature sector generated nearly 1 billion yuan of operating revenue last year, accounting for one-tenth of the national total.
