Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, and Wu Zhenglong, Governor of Jiangsu, paid a visit to Qian Qihu, a professor with the Jiangsu-based Army Engineering University of the People's Liberation Army who won the country’s top science and technology award at the 2018 National Science and Technology Awards Conference held last week in Beijing. Qian is also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Lou and Wu extended their greetings and presented bouquets of flowers to Professor Qian.
They also extended their gratitude to Qian for his important contribution to the country's scientific and technological progress and major engineering construction, and winning the honor for Jiangsu.
Both leaders called on researchers in Jiangsu to follow the example of Qian Qihu, implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech on the work of Jiangsu, and strive to promote scientific and technological innovation in the province to provide strong scientific and technical support for the province’s high-quality development.
Accompanied by Academician Qian Qihu, Lou Qinjian and Wu Zhenglong visited his laboratory and office before being briefed on the reform and development of the Army Engineering University.
Qian Qihu said that he will regard this award as a new starting point to lead young people to inherit and carry forward the spirit of the older generation of scientists, and remain committed to their posts so as to make greater contribution to the progress in the development of national defense and military science and technology.
He also said most of his scientific research results were obtained in Jiangsu, which is inseparable from the strong support of the provincial party committee and the provincial government. He will give full play to his own strength and make greater contributions to Jiangsu's reform and development.
