East China’s Jiangsu province will renovate 400 kilometers of ordinary national highways, rebuild 4,500 kilometers of rural roads and 2,100 bridges to ensure that 90% of the administrative villages will have access to double-lane class-IV highways.
In the construction of rural roads, Jiangsuwill explore and implement a number of road stations that integrateparking, rest, toilets, information guidance and other functions. Smart roads, green roads, and ETC payments will also be accelerated in the construction of rural roads.
Chinese leaders have called for more efforts on the construction, maintenance and operation of rural roads as part of the country's battle against poverty. China aims to lift all people from poverty by 2020 to create a "moderately prosperous society".In the past five years, China has seen 1.28 million km of rural roads built or renovated, with 99.2 percent of townships and 98.3 percent of villages connected by asphalt or cement roads.
