Wang Yanwen, member of the standing committee of the CPC Provincial Committee and director of the publicity department, greeted Tuesday afternoon Wang Shihua, wife of Wang Jicai, a late militia sentry guard. Meng Zhongkang, member of the standing committee of the CPC Provincial Committee and Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Region, was present during the meeting.
Wang Yanwen hoped that Wang Shihua's family will continue to carry forward and inherit the spirit of Comrade Wang Jicai, and pass it down from generation to generation.
Meng Zhongkang said that publicity of Comrade Wang Jicai’s advanced deeds have greatly spurred and encouraged the vast number of officers and men and the militia, adding that more efforts need to be made to implement the spirit of the General Secretary’s instructions and continue to learn from the advanced deeds of Comrade Wang Jicai.
On behalf of the whole family, Wang Shihua expressed her gratitude to all the people for their concern. She said that she will always remember Wang Jicai’s promise that defending the island is defending the country and make her own contribution to the spread of Wang Jicai’s patriotic dedication.
Wang Jicai, former head of the militia post on Kaishan Island in east China's Jiangsu Province, died of sudden illness when on duty on July 27 after spending 32 years guarding an island post, assisted by his wife.
The couple was honored as National Role Models of the Times in 2014.
