On Jan. 30, a Suzhou snacks DIY activity was held in the Taohuawu Historical and Cultural Area of Gusu District. Twenty-four Chinese and German teenagers gathered together to learn to make Suzhou boat snacks. The activity was part of the 6-day Sino-German Youth Gusu Intangible Cultural Heritage Tour sponsored by the Amity Foundation.

At the event, Sha Peizhi, manager of the Wumen Renjia Restaurant, introduced “Luotuo Dan” (a camel-like food stall) to the girls and boys. Lucas, a 15-year-old boy, took many pictures with his mobile phone and sent text messages to his parents about his wonderful and meaningful tour in Suzhou.

The Sino-German Youth Gusu Intangible Cultural Heritage Tour, highlighting the introduction of Suzhou’s intangible cultural heritages, offers experience activities of Taohuawu Woodblock New Year Prints, Suzhou-style paper-cutting, Suzhou-style fans and Suzhou boat snacks. The children will have the chance to watch an immersive garden-based Kunqu opera. The tour will help them learn more about the traditional Chinese culture and appreciate the oriental aesthetics represented by Suzhou culture.
