A fishing ban has been imposed on Taihu Lake, Hongze Lake and Luoma Lake in a bid to protect the fishery resources and replenish the fish stocks in the three major lakes in Jiangsu.
The fishing ban on Taihu Lake went into force on February 1st, one month earlier than usual, and will last until August 31st. A five-month fishing ban was imposed on Hongze Lake and Luoma Lake to last until June 30. During the period, all fishing activities are banned in the lake areas. During the fishing ban, Hongze Lake Fisheries Management Office will release 200 million fish fry and crabs by investing 6 million yuan.
In another development, starting on February 1st, the special fishing licenses for Yangtze River knife-fish, anchovies and Yangtze River mitten crabs have been discontinued. The previous certificates have all expired and the Yangtze River knife-fish has since bid farewell to the table.
