Wu Zhenglong, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and governor, met Monday in Nanjing with a Taiwanese delegation headed by Yok Mu-ming, chairman of the New Party.
On behalf of the provincial party committee, the provincial government and the people of Jiangsu, Wu Zhenglong welcomed the delegation's visit and conveyed the greetings from the provincial party secretary Lou Qinjian before briefing the guests on the economic and social development of the province.
He said that the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered early this year at a gathering marking 40th anniversary of Message to Compatriots in Taiwan declared the five major propositions of adhering to the policy of "one country, two systems" for promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland in the new era, and working together for peace in cross-strait relations, which has pointed out the way for the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and the accomplishment of the great cause of peaceful reunification of the motherland.
Jiangsu and Taiwan share deep roots and close contacts, as is evidenced by the close people-to-people exchanges and the harmonious economic relations, making the province one of the most intensive areas for Taiwanese businessmen to invest in the mainland and Taiwan-funded enterprises, the governor said.
Wu said Jiangsu is willing to share new opportunities for high-quality development with the Taiwan compatriots, and create better conditions for Taiwan compatriots, especially young people from Taiwan to study, work, start businesses and lead a comfortable life by providing more convenience, achieve mutual benefit and win-win development, and improve the well-being of the people from both sides of the Taiwan straits.
He hoped that Jiangsu and Taiwan will give full play to their respective advantages, work together and advance together to make greater contributions to the realization of the Chinese nation's great rejuvenation of the Chinese dream.
Yok Mu-ming said that as a Chinese descendant, he will, as always, adhere to the one-China principle, adhere to the "1992 Consensus", oppose "Taiwan independence" and jointly promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. We are willing to actively promote exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Jiangsu in various fields and join hands in creating a better future, he said.
