Huishan Ancient Town of Wuxi, Baodai Bridge of Suzhou, Tianning Temple of Changzhou and Sanwan Park of Yangzhou are among the 40 most brilliant Grand Canal landmarks in Jiangsu, according to a campaign sponsored by the provincial department of publicity to trace the best memories of Jiangsu in the Grand Canal culture. These landmarks are the realistic carriers of the memory of the Grand Canal in Jiangsu as they have always played a physical role in production, life, and ecology. They also have cultural functions such as displaying science and technology and inheriting the canal culture. Stretching 1,794 kilometers from Beijing in the north to Hangzhou in the south, the Grand Canal is one of the greatest hydraulic projects in human history. It was a pillar for the economy, social stability and government functions in ancient China. It has also helped the evolution of Chinese culture by enhancing communication between the south and the north.
