Huaihai Institute of Technology will be renamed Jiangsu Ocean University, according to a circular issued by the Ministry of Education recently. Jiangsu Ocean University will be a multi-disciplinary university focusing on undergraduate education and also undertakes postgraduate training tasks. The Lianyungang-based university is placed under the leadership and supervision of Jiangsu Province. The university will strive for development around the country's strategy of building China into a maritime power and the "Belt and Road" construction, dock the emerging industries in the region and build a high-level university with distinctive characteristics.
