82 years ago, Richard Brady, John Rabe, John Magee and some other westerners who remained behind in Nanjing during the Nanjing Massacre sheltered up to 250, 000 Chinese civilians and disarmed soldiers. 82 years later, their grandsons and granddaughters traveled from the USA to land in Nanjing for a one-week peace summer camp. They will be visiting the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Museum and the sites where their grandparents used to work to understand the history of the ancestors' experience and feel the hardships of peace.

11 offspring of the international friends struck the peace bell and laid flower wreath on Tuesday.

They vary in age from 61 to 11. Some had the experience of attending the state ceremony of the National Memorial Day for the Nanjing Massacre Victims and some are in China for the first time.

Rick Magee, John Maggie’s grandson, brought two holy belts that his grandfather used in Nanjing. He donated them to the memorial museum this time.

Richard Brady used to work with the Drum Tower Hospital in Nanjing where he treated many Chinese civilians injured by the Japanese troops during the Nanjing Massacre. Due to the profound friendship, his great granddaughter started to learn the Chinese culture and language at an early age.

In the next few days, they will visit the places where their ancestors used to work and live in Nanjing. Through this summer camp, the younger generation will learn about the historical truth, feel the Chinese culture, and spread peace and friendship.
