A battery of laws and regulations affecting people’s life came into force on August 1
st, JSBC reports.


The trial run of a scheme under which residents from 47 mainland cities can visit Taiwan as individual tourists will be suspended starting Aug 1, 2019, a notice said Wednesday.

The mainland-based Association for Tourism Exchange across the Taiwan Straits said it made the decision in view of the current Cross-Straits relations, according to the notice published by the association on the website of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The so-called self-guided travel to Taiwan has been trialed since June 2011. Under the terms of the program, mainland residents in 47 cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen in Fujian province can apply for individual entry permits to Taiwan.

Travel agency sources said that all tourists with plans to visit Taiwan now have to join tour groups.


According to a statement jointly issued by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and the Ministry of Finance, the pension allowances for disabled soldiers, police officers, and militia members will be raised by 10 percent starting from Aug 1, the Army Day.

The pension for families of martyrs and the subsidies for retired Red Army soldiers will also be raised by 10 percent.

Monthly allowances for rural retired soldiers will be raised by 200 yuan.

This is the 26th time for China to increase the pension standards for disabled veterans and the 29th time to increase that for Red Army veterans and families of deceased soldiers since 1978.

The last time China improved the pension standards for these groups was Aug. 1, 2018.


Chinese authorities have taken concrete measures to help veterans with resettlement and employment.

The Ministry of Veterans Affairs has helped more than 80,000 ex-officers in the military find civilian jobs and over 400,000 retired soldiers resettle since it was founded in March 2018.

Last year, local veteran affairs authorities held over 300 recruitment fairs, which created over 600,000 jobs for veterans.

A total of 123 centrally-administered State-owned enterprises have offered more than 15,000 jobs for veterans.

The new "Measures for the Administration of Tax Service Complaints" will be implemented in August. The new method will reduce the time limit for handling all kinds of complaints by 50%. The complainant may request for a review by the higher tax authority if they believe that the result of the complaint is unfair.

China will ease the permanent residence application for more high-level foreign talents starting from August 1st, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

Meanwhile, long-term visas and residence permits will be issued to more foreigners including those doing business, working or studying in China, the ministry said.

Foreign talents who were invited by China's universities, scientific research institutes and well-known enterprises for technology cooperation and trade, as well as those working in China, will be able to get visas or resident permits valid for two to five years.

China is considering setting up immigration affairs service centers or stations in areas with a large population of foreigners to make their work, study and living more convenient.
