Chinese animated film Ne Zha continued to dominate the Chinese mainland box office on Tuesday, its fifth day of screening, the China Movie Data Information Network said Wednesday.

The domestic full-length animated feature film raked in about 136.62 million yuan or 19.86 million U.S. dollars on its opening day, accounting for nearly 63 percent of the daily total.

It raked in about 224.72 million yuan on its second day of screening, accounting for nearly 67% of the daily total.

On Tuesday, it grossed 191.46 million yuan or about $27.8 million.

Its total box office reached around 1.1 billion yuan as of Wednesday, becoming the highest-grossing domestic animated film.

Ne Zha is a mythical male figure created in ancient China and is widely known as the incarnation of a lotus. He is often depicted as a young hero standing on two flaming wheels in Chinese legends and literature such as the literary classic "Journey to the West."

Telling the life tale of Ne Zha, a beloved Chinese mythical figure, the film features a daring overhaul of Ne Zha's appearance and depicts him more as a mischievous boy instead of the hero kid in previous cinematic works.

Ne Zha was followed by the Chinese family drama Looking Up and Disney's The Lion King, which raked in 22.05 million yuan and 6.28 million yuan, respectively.
