East China’s Jiangsu province will build more bridges across the Yangtze River before 2035, according to the Expert Committee on Building Technologies for Yangtze River Bridges that was launched on Tuesday.
Jiangsu has built 14 bridges or tunnels across the Yangtze River with 8 other being built.
By the end of 2025, the province will have built or be building 30 Yangtze River bridges or tunnels. By 2035, the number will reach 36.
On the board of the Expert Committee on Building Technologies for Yangtze River Bridges are well-known experts, including academicians and design masters, and industry leaders in the field of transportation and engineering.
The experts will check the overall plan of the cross-river bridge and tunnel projects and the major key nodes, offer consultations on the key technical problems and special technical research of the projects, give guidance on the major technical program demonstration, major construction program review, and risk control so as to provide high-quality technical support and strong advancement of the Yangtze River bridges or tunnels.
With the continuous progress of tunnel shield technology, the tunnel scheme will be used more in future river crossing projects.

Measures must be taken to protect
the Mother River the Yangtze River

is a valuable resource
so the construction of the river crossings
should not affect the shoreline resources
as much as possible
and there will be more and more tunnels
