The No. 6 main tower pier caisson of the Changzhou-Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge is the world’s largest foundation body of submerged caisson. The sinkhole is currently under construction in Nantong, and will be delivered later this month.
In the Nantong Development Zone, the steel caisson of the main tower pier of the Changzhou-Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge is standing still in the dock.
Weighing more than 20,000 tons, this steel caisson has a cross-sectional area of about 13 basketball courts that reaches 72 meters.
This round-ended open caisson is 95.4 meters long and 58.2 meters wide. It is the world's largest submerged caisson foundation. There are 388 segments inside with tens of thousands of components. Welding them together at a margin of error at the millimeter level is very difficult.
The open caisson is to be delivered to the designated site later this month.
The Changzhou-Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge is located between the Taizhou Bridge and the Jiangyin Bridge, and connects Changzhou and Taixing across the river. The bridge spans 1,176 meters and will become the world's largest span cable-stayed bridge. The construction of the bridge will play an important role in serving the Yangtze River Economic Belt, promoting cross-river integration and development, and the construction of the Yangtze River city clusters.
