Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu province, called for all-out efforts to ensure people's lives and safety as the top priority in the prevention, rescue, and relief work regarding floods and geological disasters. He made the remarks when presiding over an executive meeting of the provincial government on Monday.
The important instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping on flood relief and rescue have reflected the people-first development thinking and the people-oriented concept, according to a statement released after the meeting.
It is important to study and implement the instructions made by Xi Jinping from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core so as to ensure the security of people’s lives and properties, the statement said.
More rainstorms have been reported since June in many parts of Jiangsu, triggering floods and geological disasters.
The meeting commended the efforts made by local governments, noting that positive results have been achieved in flood prevention and rescue work.
As many places have entered their flood seasons, with some facing tough situations amid the approaching typhoon season, the meeting required the Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, and other departments, to strengthen coordination and provide effective guidance in flood and typhoon prevention.
The meeting stressed the need to put people first, and value people's lives most in the combat against floods. He also underscored the necessity to coordinate epidemic prevention with flood control and disaster relief work, combine prevention preparations with emergency response, strengthen flood monitoring, and promptly identify risks.
All-out efforts are demanded from relevant departments to organize emergency rescue and disaster relief, help the afflicted get back on their feet, maintain social and production orders in the disaster areas, and make solid efforts to ensure people's lives and safety as the top priority, said the statement.
China has arranged precautionary measures in the face of a new round of heavy rainfall in parts of the country, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.
