East China’s Jiangsu province will make greater efforts to reinforce the anti-pollution campaign so as to promote ecological civilization and high-quality development, advance the development of beautiful Jiangsu from a high starting point, ensure a good start in the 14th Five-Year Plan, and accelerate the modernization of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. The remarks were made by Wu Zhenglong on Friday when presiding over a video conference on its war on pollution.
[voice over] Wu Zhenglong was briefed on the latest trends in pollution prevention by the leaders of Nanjing Municipal Government, Xuzhou Municipal Government, Suzhou Municipal Government, and the Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, and other departments.
Wu Zhenglong pointed out that in the past year, Jiangsu implemented the Xi Jinping Thought on ecological civilization, carried out the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the decision-making and deployment of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and fulfilled the national targets for energy conservation and environmental quality improvement. We should further strengthen our sense of responsibility and urgency, stick to the same direction and continue to improve the quality of the ecological environment.
Wu Zhenglong said we should adhere to precise, scientific and law-based pollution control and vigorously promote coordinated pollution reduction and carbon reduction.
Greater efforts should be made to do a good job in PM2.5 and ozone control and reduction, the transformation of ultra-low emissions from key industries, and the continuous improvement of air, water, and soil environmental quality. Measures must be taken to promote new progress in soil treatment, the restoration of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River, the in-depth promotion of the "4 + 1" project for pollution control, the adjustment of industrial structure along the Yangtze, the investigation and improvement of sewage outlets, the ecological restoration of shorelines, and the pollution control of ships and ports so as to ensure the vitality of the Yangtze River.
We should strengthen urban and rural drinking water safety, urban polluted rivers and rural domestic sewage treatment, urban sewage treatment facilities construction, industrial park water pollution prevention and comprehensive treatment of key rivers and lakes by implementing the river-chief and lake-chief system.
We must make every effort to promote the construction of a pilot province for modernizing the ecological environment governance system and governance capacity by ensuring environmental safety, guaranteeing the resumption of work and production and the construction of major projects, developing the environmental protection industry, continuing to focus on production safety, and providing more effective services for the completion of this year’s economic and social development goals.
Vice Governor Zhao Shiyong made an update at the meeting. Leading members of the provincial government and other departments attended the meeting at the main venue. Leading members of each districted city, county government participated in the meeting in the sub-venue.
