Most people in China have been encouraged to stay put for the Chinese New Year holiday this year. It not only changed our way to celebrate the holiday, but also boosted the potential in economy, with consumptions recovering significantly.
Short-distance traveling was welcomed in Jiangsu Province during the holiday. The whole province witnessed over 35 million visitors in the period, an increase of 3.06 compared with 2019. The total tourism revenue reached 23.8 billion yuan, recovering to 85.1% of the same period in 2019.
E-commerce was also stimulated by the unusual holiday. In the 7-day holiday, over 57.28 million parcels were processed in Jiangsu, three times of the number last year. Approximately 60 thousand express employees stayed at work in Jiangsu during the holiday, almost half of the total number, leading to a steady and efficient service condition.
Industrial consumption of electricity remained at high level during the holiday. In the first 6 days of the holiday, 3.94 billion kWh of electricity was consumed, a year-on-year increase of 20.1%. Industries that enjoyed the most increase were mechanical industry, medicine and electronics. Nearly 80% of the key enterprises in Jiangsu reported unchanged or increased order numbers during the holiday, while prices of major products remained steady, leading to significantly improved industrial conditions compared with previous years.
