As shown by statistics from China Film Administration, this year’s Chinese New Year box office revenue reached a record high of over 7.8 billion yuan. The box office revenue in Jiangsu Province alone exceeded 866 million yuan, which accounted for 11.1% of the national revenue, ranking the first among all provinces, a 28% growth compared with the same period of 2019.

According to the Administration, the three movies with the most revenue in Jiangsu during the holiday were “Detective Chinatown 3”, “Hi Mom” and “A Writer’s Odyssey”, earning 430 million yuan, 310 million yuan and 60 million yuan respectively. Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuxi contributed the most to the revenue.

This year’s Chinese New Year was busy for cinemas

especially in the first three days of the holiday

it’s hard to get a ticket in the afternoon

For our cinema, the box office revenue

is 30% more than in the same period in 2019

Cinema staff member, Wuxi

The total revenue of Wuxi’s Chinese New Year

is over 80 million yuan

the number was over 60 million in 2019

so it rose by 26%

That’s because this is the first Chinese New Year

since the resumption of work and production

and also the fruit of pandemic containment measures

and the “Stay at where you work for holiday” policy

So people tend to enjoy films at cinemas

As analyzed by professionals, after years of market growth, it has become people’s significant cultural need to go to cinemas during holidays. The record high revenue also resulted from the rise in cinema amounts and ticket prices. Among all the titles, “Hi, Mom” and “Detective Chinatown 3” take up 80% of the whole revenue, followed by “A Writer’s Odyssey” and “Boonie Bears: The Wild Life”. “End Game” ranked the last in box office, but there’s still a chance for it and other titles to pick up speed.

We have noticed these days

that people are rushing in

to watch the film “End Game”

So as long as a film provides great content

and gets recognized by the audience

we’ll adjust screening arrangement

so that its revenue could catch up

To ensure safety in cinemas, strict pandemic control and prevention measures have been deployed across the province, including online ordering and rearranged screening schedules.
