As of March 2021, more than 3.15 million people in China had registered as organ donation volunteers, China Human Organ Donation Management Center said on Wednesday.
Initiating in 2010, China's annual donation rate per million people has kept rising with the figure surging to 4.53 in 2019 from 0.03 in 2010, according to data from the China Organ Donation Administrative Center. As of March 2021, more than 3.15 million people in China had registered as organ donation volunteers.
33 thousand organ donors in China had their will realized upon their death with 99 thousand organs of various kinds donated to save the life of nearly 100 thousand patients suffering from organ failure.
Organ donation management agencies have been established in 22 provinces, with more than 2,000 human organ donation coordinators.
In order to cherish the memory and commemoration of human organ donors, 147 memorial places have been built for cadaver and human organ donors across the country. In the future, each prefecture-level city will establish a memorial place for the deceased life-saving donors.
