East China’s Jiangsu province has made unremitting efforts in recent years to fuel the development of the rail transit system so as to have given a strong impetus to the sustained economic growth.

Since the availability of the high-speed rail access in Huai'an, Wang Siyao, a Suzhou girl who works in Huai'an, would take the southbound high-speed rail back to her hometown in Suzhou to visit her parents once she could afford the time. This is also her most anticipated and most enjoyable journey.

High-speed rail makes people's travel more comfortable and faster. Once built, high-speed rail station would become a destination to gather the flow of people, logistics, and information to form a new urban center.

Rail transit connectivity has helped more and more cities to seize national strategic opportunities and gather new development momentum.

Lianyungang is the biggest beneficiary of the multiple national strategies as the port city has built the Lianyungang sub-zone of the Jiangsu Pilot Free Trade Zone, the National Demonstration Zone for East, Central and West Regional Cooperation, and the National Innovation Pilot City.

The opening of Lianyungang-Xuzhou high-speed railway, Lianyungang-Huai'an-Yangzhou-Zhenjiang high-speed railway, and Lianyungang-Yancheng high-speed railway has opened up the traffic bottleneck that plagued Lianyungang over the past years.

In the first six months of this year, Jiangsu sent off 700 international freight trains with 129 launched in June, an increase of 11.61% from the previous month.

Customs statistics show that from January to June, Jiangsu reported US$1.548 billion in freight train value,a year-on-year increase of 42.84%.
