Mass transit authority in Nanjing has started to upgrade the city’s 242 bus shelters in the urban areas by installing stools and ceilings as the routine requirements.
Most of the bus stops in Nanjing are not installed with ceiling or stools, making it inconvenient for passengers who want to take a rest during the long waiting.
In the upgrading project, Nanjing will install bus shelters in the form of kiosk that is complete with stools and ceilings.
According to Lu Mingjun, an official with Nanjing Mass Transit Company, the bus shelters will fall into two types with one being 4.5 meters wide and the other 1.2 meters wide, depending on the locations. The shelters will assure passengers shade from the sun and protected from the rain.
90 bus shelters have gone through the upgrading so far with the rest to be finished at the end of this year.
