1月25日上午,苏州市文化广电旅游局发布了最新编写的《Pocket Suzhou 苏州旅行指南英文口袋书》。
Pocket Suzhou: An English Guide Book to Suzhouwas released on Tuesday morning. It is worth noting that the book is the city's first in-depth travel guide in English.
Suzhou, with strong economy and rich culture, stands out as one of the areas with the highest density of foreigners across the country, and has been selected into the most attractive Chinese cities for foreigners for ten consecutive years. It is reported that Suzhou saw a total of 1.8 million foreign tourists in 2019.
Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism visited colleges and enterprises and interviewed workers in tourist industry around the city to make the book more comprehensive and reader-oriented. After ten months' efforts and numerous field trips, the book has finally come out.
Revolving around five topics, namely Suzhou classical gardens, Suzhou section of the Grand Canal, museums and cultural venues, ancient townsand villages, and famous delicacies, Pocket Suzhou strings together culture and leisure in the old district, business in Jinji Lake area, tourism in Taihu Lake, leisure activities in Yangcheng Lake and introductions to the county-level cities of Suzhou, and provides special tour routes to foreigners' liking as well as tips on in-depth tours in the city, making it easier for foreigners to gain access to cycling, hiking,outdoor and aquatic activities, and more.
Jerry, percussionist from Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, attended the launching ceremony of Pocket Suzhouon invitation. As one of the first batch of foreign readers, he expressed his affection for the book:
"In regards to the 'Pocket Suzhou'Guide Book, I believe it is very well designed, rich in content and easy to use.It contains a lot of valuable information about the preparation needed before departure as well as valuable guidance tips on how to move around the city upon arrival, thus making the reader feel comfortable even before visiting the city!"
Next, free copies of Pocket Suzhouwill be available at local tourist service centers, foreign-invested enterprises, colleges and residential compounds. To communicate Suzhou to more people around the world, copies of the book will be presented to Suzhou's sister cities, foreign consulates and other organizations.
A digital version of the guidebook was also released to make it more accessible.
