Six cascade power stations along the main stream of the Yangtze River, including the Three Gorges, Baihetan, and Wudongde, which is dubbed the world's largest clean energy corridor, generated 46.96 billion kWh of electricity in the first quarter, according to a report released by the Three Gorges Group on Monday.

In the first quarter, the Three Gorges Group ensured that the cascade hydro-power stations in the main stream of the Yangtze River can generate and supply more power, effectively relieve the shortage of power supply, while take into account the water supply, shipping and ecological needs of the basin area.

As of March 31, the six cascade hydro-power stations along the main stream of the Yangtze River that include Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges, Gezhouba, had generated 46.96 billion kWh of electricity, a year-on-year increase of about 27%.

46.96 billion kWh of clean electricity is equivalent to saving more than 14 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 39 million tons.

The 6 cascade hydro-power stations on the main stream of the Yangtze River have now put into operation 101 generator sets, with a total installed capacity of more than 62 million kilowatts, accounting for about 16% of the country’s installed hydro-power capacity.

The 6 cascade hydro-power stations have a large amount of power generation and strong peak shaving capacity, which can effectively alleviate the shortage of electricity in Central China, East China and Sichuan, Yunnan and Guangdong provinces, thereby playing an important role in the safe and stable operation of the power grid and providing strong support for the implementation of the major national strategy of "West-to-East Power Transmission".

In 2021, the six cascade hydro-power stations generated 262.883 billion kWh of electricity, setting a historical record, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 220 million tons.
