East China’s Jiangsu province has made unremitting efforts to supply as many vegetables as possible to the market in a bid to help contain the outbreak of the covid-19 epidemic as soon as possible.
Yin Peipei, a villager in Tianwa Village, Caiji Town of Suqian city, hired six or seven workers to pack the freshly picked lettuce, celery and cauliflower. Each bag of vegetables weighs about 5 kilograms and costs about 15 yuan.
Yin Peipei planted 160 to 70 mu of vegetables. In the past years, the vegetables would be sent to large farmers' markets and supermarkets in large quantities. This year, however, the epidemic has stopped her from selling the 30 thousand kilograms of vegetables, which made her very anxious.
Wu Yuankai, Secretary of the Party General Branch of Tianwa Village, Caiji Town, Sucheng District, said "The vegetables grown by nearly 50 or 60 peasant families could not be sold. We sent them to the purchasing group and the owner group of the community through the circle of friends and WeChat to help sell the vegetables."
The village authority also contacted the media and various departments in Suqian to help promote the sales of more than 100 thousand kilograms of vegetables as soon as possible.
In the past two days, Yin Peipei got up at four or five in the morning and started picking and packing vegetables to fulfill the order.
Weng Wenrong, a farmer in Hongqi Village, Wujiang District, Suzhou City, has encountered the difficulty of selling the green shrimp in his breeding ponds due to the epidemic.
Weng Wenrong, Farmer in Hongqi Village, Wujiang District, Suzhou City, said "When the temperature is high, the shrimp will die as they can survive below 22°C. The trouble is that no vehicles have shown up here to purchase the shrimps."
313 farmers are waiting to sell nearly 160 thousand kilograms of shrimp in 6,480 mu of ponds.
With the help of Internet mini-programs, Hongqi Village has opened up the logistics and sales links.
So far, Hongqi Village has sold about 50% of the shrimps in the ponds.
