The Jintan District of Changzhou city put into operation a national pilot demonstration project of compressed air energy storage in salt caverns on Thursday, marking the world's first zero-carbon compressed air power generation.
The project is China’s only national demonstration project and the first commercial power station project in the field of compressed air energy storage with an installed capacity of 60 MW in the first phase of energy storage and power generation, 300 MWh of energy storage capacity, and 1,000 MW for the long-term goal.
Salt cavern compressed air energy storage is to use the huge cavity formed by water-soluble salt mining, compress the air into the salt cavern when the power grid is low, and release the compressed air to generate electricity when the power consumption peaks, so as to realize peak shaving and valley filling and improve grid regulation ability.
The north and south main towers of the Xianxin Road Yangtze River Bridge in Nanjing topped on Thursday. The bridge is China's longest-span suspension bridge under construction. The main tower is 263.8 meters high, which is equivalent to an 88-story building, ranking first among similar bridge types in China.
With a main span of 1,760 meters, the Nanjing Xianxin Road Yangtze River Bridge, located between the Baguazhou Yangtze River Bridge and the Qixiashan Yangtze River Bridge, will further enhance the transportation capacity across the Yangtze River.
The eastward relocation of the Longhai Railway's Pizhou Station to the Pizhou East Station on the Xuzhou-Lianyungang High-speed Railway was completed on Thursday. In the future, Pizhou East Station will become a modern comprehensive transportation hub integrating high-speed rail, ordinary trains and automobile passenger transportation.
